Online Poker Regulation Bill Passes Committee
07/29/2010:On Wednesday the House Financial Services Committee passed H.R. 2267, the Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection and Enforcement Act, by a vote of 41-22. According to the Poker Players Alliance, the bill would "establish a robust license and regulatory regime for online gaming in the United Stats, providing much needed oversight on this growing industry in order to protect customers, children and problem gamblers."
Despite this victory, the bill still faces hurdles as it must be passed by the House of Representatives, the Senate and then must be signed by the President of the United States this year to become law. If the bill does not pass this year, the entire process must start over, possibly with a less favorable political environment. Despite these key hurdles, the passage of this bill through committee represents the greatest legislative victory for USA poker players since the passage of the UIGEA in 2006 and provides great momentum going forward.
Summer Freeroll Flurry at Poker Heaven
07/26/2010:From July 28th to July 30th, Poker Heaven is inviting players to participate in the Summer Freeroll Flurry, a series of freeroll and giveaway tournaments with a total of €14,500 in cash to be awarded over three evenings. To start things off, the Boss Network site will hold a €5,000 Survivor Freeroll on July 28th at 17:45 GMT/1:45 PM ET. The only requirement to enter this tournament is that you must have played 10 contributed raked hands in the previous 24 hours. If you get knocked out of the tournament in the first hour, you can rebuy for €1. One quarter of the prize pool will be awarded to the winner of the Survivor Freeroll.
On July 29th at 17:45 GMT/1:45, a Bounty Freeroll will be held. It will award a regular prize pool of €4,000 and also give away five €100 bounties. To qualify for this freeroll, players must earn 50 contributed raked hands in the previous 24 hours.
Finally, on July 30th, a €5,000 Giveaway will be run with no entry requirements. The top 250 players in the tournament will receive a €20 cash prize. Like the Survivor Freeroll, there will be €1 rebuys allowed during the first hour.
A maximum number of 5,000 players will be allowed to enter the €5,000 Giveaway, meaning the value per player will be at least €1. Players will likely see greater value in the Survivor and Bounty Freerolls, as the stricter entry requirements will keep some players away.

Ongame Introduces New Points Scheme
07/20/2010:The Ongame Network, home of sites such as EuroBet Poker, Tower Gaming and Betsafe Poker, has changed the way cash game players earn points and progress through the VIP program. The new scheme will give more value to less skilled players by awarding more Player Points; skilled players will now earn fewer Player Points.
Ongame hopes that the new scheme will improve the quality of games and have a positive effect on all players. For those that play against inferior opponents, Ongame believes that the extra money you will be making through worse players at the tables will more than make up the difference of earning less in rewards.
All things being equal, points will still be earned at a rate of 3.25 Player Points per $1 of rake contribution, but will be tweaked based on your skill level versus your opponents. Generally speaking, a winning player will earn fewer points when playing against poor opponents. On the flip side, a poor player who is playing against better opponents will be earning more points under the new scheme. Unfortunately, due to the complex formula and not knowing your skill level versus your opponents –- it will be different at every table -- we are now unable to provide specific figures to the value of bonuses and/or VIP reward scheme at Ongame sites.
At Multi-Table Tournaments and SNGs, players will not be affected. Players will still earn 5 Player Points per $1 in fees with no adjustment based on your competition.
